Why plan your posts with a calendar

In a small business, days go by fast. You think of Valentine’s Day on 12 February, of Christmas orders on 15 December, and the post goes out too late: customers have already booked elsewhere or bought their gift. A key dates calendar fixes this. It lists in advance the moments when customers have a good reason to think of you, and it tells you when to prepare the post.

This 2026-2027 marketing calendar is built for local businesses: restaurants, cafés and bars, bakeries, hotels and B&Bs, hair and beauty salons, shops and tradespeople. For each date you get the reason it matters, a concrete post idea and a simple offer idea. You do not need to do them all: pick the 1 or 2 key dates a month that really speak to your customers.

How to use the calendar in 4 steps

  1. Pick your trade. The calendar hides dates that do not concern you and adapts the ideas: a restaurant sees “the menu for two”, a salon “a gift voucher”.
  2. Check the preparation date. Each key date says “prepare from…”. For days when people book or order, that is 2 to 3 weeks before.
  3. Add the dates to your calendar. The “Add to my calendar” button downloads an iCal file. Each date arrives with the post idea and a reminder on the day to get started.
  4. Post, then remind. A first post to announce, a reminder a few days before (“only 5 tables left”), and a photo on the day. Three posts are enough for a big key date.

Computed dates, not copied ones

Many key dates move every year. Easter follows the lunar calendar, Pancake Day falls 47 days before Easter, Mothering Sunday in the UK is three weeks before Easter, US Mother’s Day is the second Sunday of May, Beaujolais Nouveau is the third Thursday of November, Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday of November and Black Friday the day after. UK Small Business Saturday is the first Saturday of December. This calendar computes all these dates, for 2026 and 2027, and labels the ones specific to the UK or the US.

What to post for a key date

A good key date post answers three questions: what (your menu, your cake, your treatment, your offer), when (the day, opening hours, the deadline to order or book) and how (book online, call, come to the shop). A real photo of your business works better than a stock image. Behind the scenes (the cake coming out of the oven, the decorated room) and your team make people want to come.

Tip: on your Google Business Profile, also publish an “update” for each big key date. It shows when people search for your business on Google and Google Maps, right when they hesitate.

Keep offers simple: a free dessert, a gift card, a menu for two, a pre-order. There is no need to cut prices for every holiday. And for Google reviews, one rule to remember: you can ask a happy customer for a review, but never reward them for it.

What next?

If you post yourself, this calendar and your agenda are enough. If you are short on time, Voxtya’s Social media service shows the next key dates for your trade right in the studio, with a “Prepare this post” button: the AI writes the text in your tone, you pick the photo and the posting date. It also tells you how often to post on each network and at what time, and tracks your posts for the week.

What is a key dates marketing calendar?
It is the list of moments in the year when customers have a reason to think of you: holidays (Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Christmas), seasons (spring, back to school), sales and awareness days (Croissant Day, Coffee Day, World Bread Day). You use it to prepare posts and offers ahead of time, instead of remembering the day before.
Is this calendar really free?
Yes. The calendar, the trade filter and the export to your calendar are free, with no sign-up and no email. The file downloads straight from this page.
How do I add the dates to Google Calendar or Outlook?
Click “Add to my calendar”: an .ics file downloads. In Google Calendar, open Settings, then Import and export, and choose the file. In Outlook or on an iPhone, simply open the file. Each key date arrives as an all-day event with the post idea and a reminder on the day to prepare it.
Are the 2027 dates right?
Yes, they are computed, not copied. Easter, Pancake Day and Mothering Sunday (three weeks before Easter) move every year; US Mother’s Day is the second Sunday of May, Thanksgiving the fourth Thursday of November and Black Friday the day after.
How long before a key date should I post?
For days when people book or order (Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve), post 2 to 3 weeks before, then remind people in the last week. For lighter days (Croissant Day, Halloween), a few days before is enough. The calendar shows the recommended preparation date for each key date.
Do I need a promotion for every key date?
No. An offer is optional: a nice post, a behind-the-scenes photo or a special menu is often enough. Pick the 1 or 2 key dates a month that really matter to your trade rather than doing them all. For International Women’s Day, a sincere post works better than a promotion.
Can I offer a discount in exchange for a Google review?
No. Google does not allow rewarding a review or offering a discount in exchange for a rating. During your key dates you can ask happy customers to leave a review, with no reward linked to the review, for example with a QR code at the counter.
Which key dates should a restaurant pick?
The most useful are Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, World Music Day, Beaujolais Nouveau, Thanksgiving (US), Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Add the seasons (first spring dish, terrace opening) and back to school for your lunch deal. Filter the calendar on “Restaurant” to see matching ideas.
What about tradespeople and services?
Holidays matter less, seasons much more: spring jobs, summer holidays, back to school, clocks going back (the right moment to talk about boiler checks), last slots before Christmas. Filter on “Tradesperson, services” to see these ideas.
Does it cover the UK and the US?
Yes. This English version lists international days plus UK and US dates (Mothering Sunday, Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday, Boxing Day…), each with a country label. The French version follows French holidays and sales.
