Why check how visible your business is?

When a customer searches for “bakery”, “hairdresser” or “garage” near them, they nearly always choose from the three businesses Google Maps shows first. Your work may be excellent: if your listing is incomplete, your reviews old or your hours wrong, another business gets ahead. The good news is that most local visibility criteria are in your hands, and many can be fixed in an hour.

This quiz helps you take stock without jargon. It does not replace a real check, but it tells you where to look first. Your answers are not sent anywhere: the score is calculated in your browser.

How Google chooses the businesses it shows

Google explains it in its help for business owners: local ranking rests on three pillars, relevance (does your listing match the search?), distance (are you close to the customer?) and prominence (is your business well known and well rated?). You cannot change your address, but you can act on everything else:

  • Relevance comes from a complete listing: the right main category, a clear description, services, accurate hours.
  • Prominence comes from reviews: their number, freshness, your rating and your replies. A consistent website and an active online presence reinforce it.

How to read your score

ScoreWhat it meansWhere to start
80 to 100Very visible: your business has everything it needs to show up first.Keep up the pace of reviews and posts, track your competitors.
60 to 79Well on your way, with a few weak spots that are easy to fix.The 3 priority actions, in order.
40 to 59Visible, but often overtaken by nearby businesses.Your Google listing first, then reviews.
Below 40Hard to find: customers are looking for you without finding you.Create or complete your Google listing today.

The actions that pay off most

1. A complete, up-to-date Google listing

This is the heaviest criterion in the quiz. Check your main category (as precise as possible: “bakery” rather than “store”), write a description of a few lines, add your services and set special hours before every bank holiday. Our Google Business Profile guide goes through every field.

2. Regular reviews, and a reply to each one

Customers look at the rating first, then the number of reviews, then the date of the latest ones. A listing that gets reviews every week looks alive. Estimate how many reviews you can get with our reviews per month calculator, then reply to each one with our review reply templates.

3. A website that reads well on a phone

Most local searches happen on a phone. A simple website with your hours, address, phone and a button to book or request a quote reassures customers and gives Google and AI assistants a reliable source about your business. See our guide build your business website.

4. Being mentioned by AI assistants

ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity recommend businesses based on what they find online. The same details everywhere (name, address, phone, hours), recent reviews and a clear website improve your chances of being mentioned. Our visibility check tells you where you stand.

The most common mistakes

  • Wrong opening hours during holidays or bank holidays: one of the top causes of negative reviews.
  • A category that is too vague, which shows you on searches that are not about you and hides you from the right ones.
  • Reviews with no reply, especially negative ones: the next customer reads the review and your silence.
  • A listing name stuffed with keywords: Google forbids it and can suspend the listing.
  • Different details on your listing, website and social accounts: Google and AI assistants no longer know which to trust.

From the quiz to a real check

The quiz is a self-assessment: it depends on your answers. For a real measurement, run our free visibility check: it finds your Google listing, reads your rating and details, and gives you a measured score with the actions to take. And to be followed over time, the Visibility & advice service compares your listing with your competitors’ every month, reruns the audit and sends you three concrete actions.

How is the score out of 100 calculated?
Each question has a weight based on its effect on local visibility: a complete Google listing counts for 14 points, the number of reviews for 12, opening hours, review freshness, rating, replies, website and AI presence for 10 each, photos for 8 and social media for 6. A “partly” answer earns part of the points.
Does the quiz look at my real Google listing?
No. The quiz is a self-assessment: it only uses your answers, and nothing is sent. For a real check of your listing, your reviews and your presence in AI assistants, run our free visibility check: it finds your business and scores what it sees.
How is this different from the visibility check?
The quiz takes two minutes and makes you think about ten key points, without searching for anything. The visibility check goes further: it finds your Google listing, reads your rating, reviews and details, and gives you a measured score. Start with the quiz for a first idea, then confirm with the check.
Why does being mentioned by ChatGPT matter?
More and more customers ask an AI assistant like ChatGPT, Gemini or Perplexity for advice before choosing a restaurant or a tradesperson. These tools rely on what they find online: your Google listing, your reviews, your website, directories. Consistent details and recent reviews improve your chances of being mentioned.
What score should I aim for?
Above 80, your business is very visible: the job is to keep up the pace. Between 60 and 80, a few simple actions make a real difference. Below 60, start with the three priority actions: they are often listing settings that take less than an hour.
How long does it take to improve visibility?
Listing fixes (hours, category, photos, description) take an hour and Google picks them up within days. Reviews and your rating take a few weeks of regular asking. AI visibility follows, because it relies on the same information.
Do I need a website if I have a Google listing?
A Google listing is enough to be found, but a website reassures people, shows your services or menu in detail and lets customers book or ask for a quote without going through a platform. It is also one of the sources Google and AI assistants read to describe your business.
Does social media help me get found on Google?
Not much directly: it has the lowest weight in the quiz. But an active Instagram or Facebook account reassures customers checking that you are open and lively, and it brings regulars back. One post a week is enough.
Are my answers stored?
No. The quiz runs entirely in your browser: no answer is sent or kept, and no email is asked for. You can take it as often as you like, for example every month to track your progress.
Can Voxtya handle these actions for me?
Yes, partly or fully: review collection (QR code, wheel of fortune, email), AI review replies, your website, social media, and Visibility & advice to track your competitors and your audit every month. Each service costs €29 a month, with a 30-day free trial.
