How does the free Google listing audit work?

Type the name of your business and its town, then pick it from the list. The tool reads the public information of your Google listing: rating, number of reviews, opening hours, photos and the link to your website. It then opens your website, if you have one, to check that it is online, secure (https), easy to read on a phone and understandable by AI assistants.

Each criterion gets a score out of 20, which adds up to a score out of 100. Under the score you get a plain verdict for each point (good, to improve, urgent) and the three actions that will bring you the most customers, in order. No jargon: each action says what to do, where to click and how long it takes.

The audit never asks for a password or access to your Google listing. It only reads what anyone can see on Google Maps, exactly like a customer or an AI assistant.

Why audit your Google listing?

Before walking into a business they do not know, customers almost always check its Google listing: rating, recent reviews, opening hours, photos. An incomplete listing or a falling rating loses customers without you noticing, because they simply pick the place next door.

AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Mode work the same way. When someone asks for “a good bakery near the station”, they name a few places based on reviews, the listing and the website. In 30 seconds, the audit shows you what works for you and what works against you.

What does the audit check, criterion by criterion?

How should you read your score out of 100?

Above 80: a solid base

Your listing already does its job. The challenge is to keep the pace: regular reviews, a reply to every review and recent photos. A listing that stops moving slowly loses ground to more active competitors.

Between 50 and 80: customers lost along the way

This is the most common case. Usually, recent reviews, photos or a mobile-friendly website are missing. The three actions suggested by the audit are often enough to gain several points within a few weeks.

Below 50: urgent fixes first

A listing with no hours, no website or few reviews misses many searches. Start with the action marked “urgent”: it is the one costing you the most customers today.

How can you improve your score after the audit?

  • Get more recent reviews. A Google review QR code on the counter and a short request at the right moment often double the pace. To know how many reviews to aim for, use the Google review calculator.
  • Reply to every review. A short, personal reply shows customers, and AI assistants, that you listen. The AI review reply generator saves you time.
  • Complete your listing. Hours (including bank holidays), a precise category, a description, photos of the shopfront, the inside and your products. Everything is explained in the Google Business Profile guide.
  • Have a clear website. A page that reads well on a phone, with your address, hours, services and prices. See the guide building a small business website.

How long before you see results?

Changes to the listing (hours, photos, description) show within a few days. Your rating and number of reviews move at the pace of your customers: allow a few weeks for a real change. Run the audit again every month to track your progress, and write your score down to compare.

To go beyond a one-off check, the Voxtya Visibility & advice service runs this check every month, tracks 3 to 5 competitors on Google and sends you a report with 3 concrete actions: €29 per month, 30-day free trial. What is GEO?
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) means making your business visible in the answers of AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Mode. When a customer asks “a good restaurant nearby”, the AI names a few places: the goal is to be one of them.
How is it different from classic SEO?
SEO aims to appear in Google’s list of results. GEO aims to be cited in the answer written by an AI. Both rely on the same basics: a complete Google profile, many good reviews and a clear website.
What does the audit check?
Five criteria: your Google rating, your number of reviews, how complete your profile is (hours, photos, website), your website (online, secure, mobile-friendly, AI-readable) and your visibility in AI assistants. Each criterion is scored out of 20.
Why don’t ChatGPT and Gemini mention me?
AI assistants mostly recommend businesses with many recent positive reviews, a complete Google profile and a clear website. Collecting more reviews, replying to them and improving your profile and website are the best ways to appear: that is exactly what Voxtya does.
Is the audit really free?
Yes, 100% free, no signup. If you ask for the report by email, we keep your address to send it and get back to you if needed.
My business does not appear, why?
Add the city to the name (e.g. “Martin Bakery Lyon”). If nothing shows up, your Google profile may not exist yet: you can create it for free on business.google.com, or contact us for help.
How long does the audit take?
About 30 seconds. Pick your business, the tool reads your Google listing and your website, then shows a score out of 100, the verdict for each criterion and the 3 priority actions. You can run it again for another business, a competitor for example.
Do I need to give access to my Google listing?
No. The audit only reads the public information of your listing, what any customer sees on Google Maps: rating, reviews, hours, photos, website. No password and no access to your account is needed.
How can I improve my score out of 100?
Start with the action marked urgent. Usually: get more recent reviews (a review QR code at the counter helps a lot), reply to every review, complete your listing (hours, photos, description) and have a website that reads well on a phone.
How often should I run the audit again?
Once a month is enough. Write your score down and compare it from one month to the next. If you want this follow-up done for you, with your competitors included, the Voxtya Visibility and advice service runs the check every month and sends you a report.
