Is an Instagram account enough for a local business?
Start from the customer journey: they search Google or Maps, compare profiles and their stars, open a website or profile to check prices, menu or slots, then book or call. Instagram matters mostly before (desire) and after (memory, coming back).
Instagram, website, Google profile: who does what?
| Instagram account | Website | Google profile | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Found by a new customer on Google | Weak | Yes, if well built | Yes, first (Maps, local search) |
| Creating desire, showing atmosphere | Excellent | Good (photos, gallery) | Good (photos, reviews) |
| Prices, menu, detailed services | Awkward (posts scroll away) | Excellent | Partial |
| Booking, appointments, quote requests | Via an external link or messages | Yes, directly | Via a button linking to a tool |
| Belongs to you | No: the platform sets rules and reach | Yes, with your domain name | You manage it, Google decides the display |
| Quoted by AI assistants (ChatGPT, Gemini) | Rarely | Yes, if the information is clear | Yes |
| Time needed | Regular (post every week) | Low once live | Low (updates, review replies) |

Quiz: is your business easy to find?
10 questions to see whether customers find you on Google, on your website and in reviews. Free.
The limits of Instagram alone
- People cannot find you unless they already know you: local search happens on Google and Maps.
- Practical details get lost: hours, prices and menu buried between posts.
- Not everyone has an account: some customers cannot see your full profile without logging in.
- Reach depends on the algorithm: only part of your followers see each post.
- An account can be hacked or suspended: without a website, you lose your shop window overnight.

| Bakery | New items, holidays | Hours, cake orders (bakery website) |

| Tradesperson | Finished jobs | Area, past work, quote requests (tradesperson website) |
How to connect Instagram, website and Google profile
- Put your website link (or your booking page) in your Instagram bio: see Instagram bio examples.
- Add the website and booking link to your Google profile.
- Show your Google reviews on the website: they reassure new customers most.
- Announce news once, publish it everywhere: a scheduling tool posts to Instagram, Facebook and your Google profile at the same time.
What Voxtya does
With Voxtya, the website is built from your Google profile, shows your reviews and can take bookings (Website service at €29 a month, €49 with Bookings). The Social media service prepares your posts with AI and schedules them on Instagram, Facebook and your Google profile. You can start with either and add a service later.
